Healing Trauma & Promoting Resilience Through Yoga

When traumatic experiences pile on top of each other, embodied practices that make space for healing and cultivate resilience become essential. Yoga can have profound positive impacts on mental & emotional health, and we can learn to design our practice to effectively support our personal path of trauma recovery. In this training, you'll learn the essential components of practicing and teaching yoga in a trauma-informed way. After completing this training experience, you'll be able to:

  1. Identify common symptoms of post-traumatic stress and how they show up on the mat

  2. Offer simple somatic practices to support yourself and your students when someone gets triggered

  3. Understand how yoga practices impact your body and nervous system, and how to use this knowledge to address the impacts of trauma

  4. Infuse trauma-informed principles into everything you do

  5. Cultivate your own resilience and share it with others

As we cope with and seek to resolve trauma across the US and world, a trauma-informed approach to yoga is more essential than ever. With a focus on healing and developing psychological resources through yoga, students will walk away from this training with tools to ground, calm, and care for themselves amidst all that we continue to face. This workshop includes lecture-style learning, small group discussion, and yoga practices – please arrive ready to learn, converse, connect, reflect and practice.
