BODY•LANGUAGE
Solo & Relational Somatic Movement
with Brigitte Wittmer

“Dance like no one is watching.” We all know the saying. Underneath it sits a quieter assumption: that the freest version of us only shows up when we’re alone. So why do we keep hiding parts of who we are the moment someone looks?

BodyLanguage starts solo. Through biomechanics and somatic movement we learn how your body actually speaks: where your weight goes when something feels right, how the breath shifts just before a no, what your spine does when you start performing. Nothing mystical about it. These are signals you can feel, test and learn to trust, the way you trust the floor to hold you.

Then we take that listening into contact. Partnered exercises show what happens when another person enters: whether you stay with yourself, hold back, or switch into performing. The beliefs that keep us performing instead of being ourselves come to the surface and get to move. Your nervous system learns, through experience, that it can stay present and stay connected at the same time. That is how regulation becomes capacity.

We’re practicing toward a different saying. Dance when everyone is watching, and know they will cheer for you. A community where you can be fully yourself in front of others, where leading and following become a conversation. I call it Liquid Leading. The future of movement is together.

No dance experience needed.

BIO

Brigitte Wittmer is a movement guide, dance artist and somatic leadership coach based in San Francisco, and the creator of B-Moving and Liquid Leading. For over twenty years, across more than twenty countries, she has worked with the body’s architecture, nervous system states and what she calls mytho-somatic intelligence. Her path runs through contemporary dance, Brazilian Zouk, somatic education and transpersonal practice, and she has taught at Envision Festival in Costa Rica, Zürich Tanzt and Dança de Salão Contemporânea in São Paulo.

Her specialty is bringing a room of non-dancers past self-consciousness and into their bodies together. Working with archetypes and polarity, solo and in contact, she helps people move from their own center and meet others without losing themselves. What she is building toward: communities where showing up as yourself is what connects you.
