Join Melissa Townsend to explore a beautiful and accessible way to work regularly with the Yoga Sūtras -- using her new meditation deck for Book One, The Yoga Sūtras Meditation Deck, Book One, Samādhi Pādah

The exquisite images on the 51 cards of this meditation deck serve as intuitive gateways, that can guide you into a deeper, personal understanding of each sūtra in Book One of the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali – the essential, fundamental text for the practice of Yoga.  Each sūtra is represented with a painting from Melissa’s book, The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali – A Visual Meditation. Book One, Samādhi Pādah on the front of the card.  On the back, the sūtra is written in devanāgarī (Sanskrit), along with the transliteration, translation, and commentary. The translations have been updated for the meditation deck, and the commentary is new. In addition, there is a color coded bar on the back of each card, that helps place each sūtra in context with other sūtras and with the thematic groupings of sūtras in Book One.

During the workshop, Melissa will talk about the deck, describe its features, how to work with the color coding, and some interesting ways of working with the deck, unique to the deck, that can help bring the sūtras to life. We will look at groupings of cards/sutras and at working with sutras that are related to each other. Primarily, we’ll be working with a few specific cards/sutras, both chosen as a group and chosen individually. We’ll be talking about the sutra, what it means, talking about the image on the card, chanting the sutra, and then meditating on it, followed by journaling and discussing.

Needed for the workshop:

  • The Yoga Sutras Meditation Deck, Book One, Samādhi Pādah.

  • Journal or notebook

  • Pen or pencil

The Meditation Deck can be purchased directly through Melissa’s website. When you register for the workshop, you will receive a 10% discount code. There will be at at least three Meditation Deck pick-up days at Love Story, two in December and one in January, where you can pick up the deck that you purchased online or come by and purchase a deck. The deck can also be mailed to you via USPS Priority mail, which is the default setting when purchasing via the website.
